About me and my photography work

My name is Sarah Bird. I am a freelance female photographer from Brighton, East Sussex with a passion for all things artistic!

My love of photography stemmed from my family - who always seemed to share the same love of photographing as I do. At the age of 17, I bought my first SLR camera and went off to college to study photography and media - specialising in black & white printing techniques, studio, macro and advertising photography and film. I gained experience helping at a local newspaper in their photographic department, assisting a local portrait photographer and also working at Pinewood Photographic Department developing images taken on film sets and promotional film photos.

In 1998, I went to work at Scanit Ltd - a company specialising in graphics and high-res image scanning and manipulation for magazines. It was there that I developed my skills using Photoshop, Illustrator and the emerging internet - designing web sites and learning to use Flash.

After realising I could be creative on the computer - my interests deviated into computer animation & I went off to Bournemouth University to study Computer Visualisation and Animation.

After my degree and working a stint in London at a computer animation company - I moved to Brighton and set up AnimNation Ltd - a 2D/3D computer animation company.

Brighton has become an ever increasing source of inspirational for me. And it was after a short Creative Photography course through Evolution Arts and purchasing a new Nikon digital SLR camera that I realised I still had that desire to photograph.

Since then - I have been out and about around Brighton, France, Spain, Switzerland and Scotland taking pictures of anything that has taken my eye! I have developed a great interest in portraiture, fashion and landscape photography. I take inspiration from many famous photographers such as Diane Arbus, Dorothea Lange, Ansel Adams, Imogen Cunningham, Henri Cartier-Bresson and Annie Leibovitz...and from the not so famous - good ol'Flickr!

My aim for 2007 isl to host my first photography exhibition. I am also working on a collaborative digital photography exhibition as part of the Brighton Digital Festival through Wired Sussex. More information to follow...
